Housing
We are facing a national housing crisis, and nowhere is this more pronounced than in California and in Orange County. The exorbitantly high cost of housing is the number 1 reason people are leaving the state of California, and it’s the number 1 cause of homelessness in Orange County. We need to treat this crisis with urgency, and it’s up to Congress to try to come up with innovative and sustainable solutions to create more housing at all income levels. As co-chair of the Building Resilient Housing Task Force with the House Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition, I am working to build out our housing stock in a way that addresses the dual crises of housing affordability and climate change. Before coming to Congress, I led the Center for American Progress’s efforts to increase funding for federal affordable housing, and developed proposals to reform Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and I will keep working tirelessly to guarantee all Californians can gain access to housing across the state.
