Creating Economic Opportunity and Protecting Small Businesses

As the son of Korean immigrants, I understand firsthand the power and promise of the American Dream and how anyone has the chance to make something of themselves in this country. Everyone deserves the chance to work hard and make a good life for themselves and their families, and I am committed to building an economy that grants everyone, not just the wealthy, the opportunity to achieve the American Dream.

In the California State Senate, I helped Orange County small businesses during the COVID-19 downturn by authoring the Small Business Relief Grant Program, which provided $4.1 billion in relief for small businesses suffering from the effects of the pandemic. I also was proud to work on a number of critical bills to help small businesses in our state, some successful and some not. I passed legislation to help small businesses who were subject to predatory lending. And along with several of my Republican colleagues, I coauthored a number of bills trying to reduce the regulatory burden for small businesses and to try to address the wave of nuisance litigation that has threatened so many small businesses in our communities.

Local businesses are the lifeblood of Orange County’s economy, and I will continue to work to protect and empower them in Congress.
