Rep. Min’s Statement on the Inauguration

January 20, 2025

Washington, D.C. — Today, Representative Dave Min (CA-47) released the following statement on the inauguration:

“Today, we commemorate the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., a man who spent his life striving to create a world where democracy, freedom, and justice are available to everyone, including the least of us.

Today also saw the peaceful transfer of power from outgoing President Joe Biden to President Donald Trump, an event that has stood as the hallmark of American democracy ever since the first such transfer of power on March 4, 1797, when George Washington voluntarily ceded the Office of the Presidency to his rival John Adams.

This peaceful transfer of power is not something we should take for granted. Four years ago, Donald Trump incited and stoked an insurrection meant to threaten and potentially murder those who might not go along with his fake electors scheme to overthrow the valid results of the 2020 election.

I am grateful to President Biden for his dignity and valor in passing the awesome powers of the Presidency over to Trump. We must be vigilant in defending our fragile democracy going forward, and also in ensuring that our country continues to stand for the values of freedom, justice and opportunity that have defined America throughout its history.

To honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., I am spending the day volunteering at food banks alongside my Orange County neighbors. During this time of uncertainty, I turn to Dr. King’s commitment to courage and hope, regardless of how daunting the circumstances may be.”
