Rep. Dave Min Joins Congressional Civil Rights Pilgrimage to Alabama, Marches on Edmund Pettus Bridge
Washington, D.C. — Yesterday, on the 60th anniversary of Bloody Sunday, Representative Dave Min (CA-47) joined the Congressional Civil Rights Pilgrimage to Alabama. Rep. Min marched on the Edmund Pettus Bridge, honoring the hundreds of marchers, including the late Congressman John Lewis, who were attacked in Selma while peacefully demonstrating for the right to vote.
“I am deeply honored to join the Congressional Civil Rights Pilgrimage to Alabama and retrace the footsteps of the civil rights leaders who tirelessly and courageously marched, fought, and died for the right to vote,” said Rep. Min. “At a time when our democracy is under threat, it is more important than ever to remember the legacy of those who came before us. Their sacrifice and bravery inspires me to continue the relentless work to protect our freedoms.”

This week, Rep. Min joined his Democratic colleagues in introducing John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to protect the right to vote and safeguard our democracy. The brutality of Bloody Sunday galvanized the Civil Rights Movement, leading to the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 (VRA). The VRA was gutted by the Supreme Court in 2013. The John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act would restore and modernize the protections of the VRA.
