Rep. Dave Min Advances Bipartisan Legislation Through Full Committee Markup, Crossing Key Legislative Hurdle To Pass Bill
Washington, D.C. — Yesterday, Congressman Dave Min’s (CA-47) Digital Coast Reauthorization Act successfully advanced out of the House Natural Resources Committee on a unanimous vote. The markup comes just two weeks after Rep. Min secured a legislative hearing on his bill, where he testified on how the Digital Coast Reauthorization Act is essential for the preservation and protection of our coastline against the growing threats of climate change. This legislation is critical for preserving the Digital Coast program, as its existing funding expires on September 30th.
As coastal cities face unique and complex challenges due to climate change, the Digital Coast Reauthorization Act would compile thousands of open-access datasets, interactive tools, and training to better understand and mitigate the consequences of the climate crisis for coastal communities. Right now, many of these communities lack access to the science and technology needed to confront these growing risks, enhance public safety, and protect critical resources. This program has already created thousands of new high-technology jobs while providing necessary data to respond to the ever evolving threats of climate change.

The Digital Coast Reauthorization Act has garnered bipartisan and bicameral support, with Vice Chair of the Natural Resources Committee, Rep. Rob Wittman (R-VA) co-leading the bill. Sens. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) lead the Senate companion and previously led the original Digital Coast Act in 2020.
