STATEMENT: Rep. Min to Vote ‘No’ on H.R. 28

January 14, 2025

Washington, D.C. — Today, Representative Dave Min (CA-47) announced he will be voting no on H.R. 28. The following statement can be attributed to Representative Min:

“HR 28 is a sad political stunt that cynically uses our universities, our elementary schools, and our kids as pawns. As the father of three children, including a 12 year old girl, I understand the concerns of many parents who worry about the fairness of their daughters competing in competitive sports against trans athletes who were born as biological males. But this bill intentionally goes way too far and would force local schools, universities, and any other institutions receiving federal funding to not only ban all trans kids from all sports—including intramural sports and elementary school contests—but also to potentially implement outrageous measures such as genital inspections to ensure they are in compliance. Guidelines to ensure fair competition should be left to our local school districts and sports leagues, not decided through overreach by the federal government.

“Sports are about competition, but they are also about teamwork and inclusion. Very few of us ever get to experience success at the highest levels of sports, but so many of us have learned teamwork, fair play, and inclusion from playing in different types of recreational sports. I urge House Republicans to end this ceaseless obsession with transgender individuals and get to work on the issues Americans care most about—improving our economic opportunities, helping with wildfire relief and other natural disasters in California and elsewhere, and reducing housing costs.”
