STATEMENT: Rep. Dave Min Condemns Trump’s Illegal Seizure of California National Guard; Calls for De-escalation and Peace
Washington, D.C. — Following President Trump’s unjust federalization of National Guard troops in California, Representative Dave Min (CA-47) released the following statement:
“Californians were peacefully exercising their Constitutionally protected First Amendment rights to protest when masked and anonymous ICE agents began illegally assaulting protestors and President Trump announced his unlawful seizure of California’s National Guard. I want to emphasize that at the time Trump issued his authoritarian declaration that he was taking control of the state’s National Guard, there was no unrest or illegal behavior sufficient to warrant this action.
Since then, some Los Angeles residents have responded by destroying private property and throwing rocks at federal agents. This must stop immediately. Clearly, Trump is trying to escalate this situation into violence, but responding in kind with lawlessness and chaos is unacceptable. I urge those who are protesting to remain peaceful, to obey the law, and to do all they can to de-escalate this situation, even in the face of Trump’s flagrant and outrageous attacks on our rule of law and Constitution.
