Rep. Dave Min Leads Amendment to Investigate Elon Musk’s Plan to Slash NOAA Funding
Rep. Min: “Losing NOAA, or massive cuts to NOAA, means that we’ll lose out on grants that are helping to restore critical habitats, to improve coastal protection, provide recreational opportunities, protect our open spaces”
Washington, D.C. – This week, Representative Dave Min (CA-47), member of the House Natural Resources Committee, introduced an amendment calling on the Committee to investigate the impacts of Elon Musk’s illegal and unconstitutional DOGE efforts to slash 50% of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) workforce and 30% of the NOAA budget on coastal resilience, which could have devastating consequences for Orange County’s coast. Rep. Min spoke out in support of NOAA, saying, “So, let's take a second to just consider what we stand to lose if this illegal and unconstitutional action is not stopped. It would mean severe cuts to the National Weather Service, which shares life saving warnings and real-time data to keep Americans safe during natural disasters.
“In fact, many private companies depend on NOAA's weather and climate data to run their businesses, all made possible by the agency's expansive network of satellites, airplanes, computer models, and dedicated staff,” said Rep. Min. “Five days before the devastating fires in Los Angeles, it was the National Weather Service that began warning us of strong winds and extreme fire conditions in the area [...] Losing NOAA, or massive cuts to NOAA, means that we’ll lose out on grants that are helping to restore critical habitats, to improve coastal protection, provide recreational opportunities, protect our open spaces.”

Yesterday, Rep. Min also introduced the Aquatic Biodiversity Preservation Act, his first bill as a member of Congress. This legislation would safeguard biodiversity in Southern California coastal ecosystems, which is essential to preserving Orange County’s pristine coastline. Read the bill here.
